IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jack Junior
Schuler Jr.
June 20, 1956 – September 16, 2022
Jack Junior Schuler, Jr., 66, of Indianola, IA, passed away on September 16, 2022, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN after a courageous battle with life. Jack was born June 20, 1956 to Jack Schuler Sr. and Betty (Aller) Schuler in Des Moines, IA. Jack attended both Indianola High School and Lincoln High School in Des Moines, and worked for UPS at the Des Moines International Airport. It was while still a teenager that he met the love of his life and eventual wife, Julie Craig, whom he married on January 12, 1985. Their union was blessed with two boys, Jacob and Jonathan. He was an incredibly proud father, and his love for his sons was returned in their steadfast devotion to their dad.
Through hard work and perseverance, Jack turned his lifelong passion for hunting and fishing into a career as a guide. Hunters came from across the Midwest in pursuit of whitetail bucks for which Iowa is renown. Chances were that Jack could get them one of these prized deer, IF you did as he told you to do! He also guided for turkeys and fish for his customers – who often grew to become treasured friends. If they didn't get their game, they were at least sure to get a good meal at the cabin with Julie as head chef! In addition to hunting and fishing, his "outdoor" talents extended inside, as no mechanical, carpentry, plumbing or electrical job was beyond his area of expertise. He truly was a jack of all trades.
Doctors would learn firsthand what a stubborn man Jack could be when lung cancer forced the removal of one lung. Their prognosis for the family was five years, but he fought and flourished for twelve. These twelve years gave him the chance to discover an as yet undiscovered passion: that of "Grandpa". Among other things, this allowed him the opportunity to pass along his enjoyment of fishing to the latest loves of his life, his three precious granddaughters: Ava, Olivia, and Sophia.
Jack will be dearly missed by his wife Julie, sons Jacob and Jonathan (Whitney); granddaughters Ava, Olivia, and Sophia; sisters Janet (Roger) Castle, Barbara (Rick) Grimes, Marilyn Swift; Jodie (Lee) Martinsen, and Linda (Ken) Elmore; Aunt Barbara Aller, Uncle Jim Aller, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Jack was preceded in death by his parents Jack Schuler Sr. and Betty Wagner, and brother Dickey Schuler.
There will be a visitation Thursday, September 22, from 4 to 8 p.m., and funeral Friday, September 23, at 2:00 p.m., both of which will be at the Indianola First Assembly of God Church. Burial will follow services in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
