Obituary

JACK GREUBEL Marshalltown Flavian John "Jack" Greubel, 88, passed to his heavenly home onThursday, March 20, 2014 at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center, Marshalltown, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Emma Greubel; his loving wife, Norma; daughter, Karen; and seven brothers and sisters. He is survived by two children, Linda (Greubel) Jacobs of Marshalltown and David Greubel of Arlington, Texas; ten grandchildren, Nick, Adam, B.J. and Elisa Greubel and Nathan, Austin, Jordan, Sarah, Emily and Rachel Jacobs. He is also survived by his sister Hilda of Melcher, Iowa and brother Giles of Denver, Colorado. Jack left home at the age of 15 on his life's adventure. He wore many hats along the way and created a wealth of stories which he loved to share with his grandkids! He settled in Denver, Colorado where he met his wife, Norma, and wore a carpenter's hat. They moved to Walden, Colorado where he was foreman on a ranch, and wore his cowboy hat while Norma did the cooking for the hired hands. They later realized their dream of a farm in Lacona, Iowa where he had been raised and wore his farming hat for many years. He enjoyed his retirement years in Indianola, Iowa gardening, square dancing, and taking the occasional trip to Prairie Meadows. After Norma passed, he moved to Marshalltown to be near his daughter. Jack was a gentle and humble man and a much-loved husband, father and grandfather. Two visitations are planned. The first on Monday, March 24 at St. Henry's Catholic Church in Marshalltown with visitation at 6 p.m. and rosary at 7 p.m. The second on Thursday March 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Indianola. A funeral mass will take place 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 28 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with burial of cremains to follow at St. Marys Cemetery, Lacona. The family requests memorials be given to Southridge Nursing & Rehab Center or St. Francis Catholic School Building Fund both in Marshalltown.
