Following his retirement from AGI in August 1995, Jack continued his farming operations and spent many afternoons playing cards at the American Legion hall in Liberty Center. He loved traveling to fish at the lakes near Red Lake, Ontario, Canada and also in Branson, Missouri. Many summers their camper stayed at the campground near Eagleville, Missouri, where Jack and Sheila would spend long weekends.

In recent years, Jack's greatest joy was to spend time with his family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren, attending as many of their school and sports events as possible.
Jack will be remembered for his fun-loving personality, his "fish" and other stories, giving grief to whomever was present at the time, and his daily overalls attire.
Jack is profoundly missed and his memory will live forever in the hearts of all who knew and cherished him.
