Jack and his family loved sprint car racing. He owned the "7a" Lightning Motor Sports sprint car and raced weekly at their home track Knoxville Raceway. The driver of his sprint car was his son, Johnny "Lightning". Knoxville Raceway voted Jack the 360 as owner of the year in 2006.
Jack also spent many years enjoying girls fast pitch softball with his daughter, Kelley. He also enjoyed fishing, gambling and work. He attended First Assembly of God Church in Indianola and will be remembered for being a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, great brother, kind uncle, true friend and a hard working man.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Nickie of 37 years; daughter, Kelley; son, Johnny and wife Jenny; grandson, Jack Mitchell all of Indianola; sisters, Kay Miller of Ankeny and Bev Fry of Clive; brother, Loyal W. Anderson (Pete) and wife Helen of Sylvania, OH; and many nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Frances and Barbara Lee.
Visitation will be held 4 – 8 p.m., Sunday, August 17, at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends from 5 – 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to Kavanagh House on 56th in Jack's name.Visits: 0
