J. KEITH CARLAT Indianola James Keith Carlat, born January 14, 1947, in Topeka, KS to parents J. Lee Carlat and Wilma Elizabeth Cranmer Carlat. He was the youngest sibling of Kenneth Carlat, Carol (Carlat) Kelley, and Sue (Carlat) Morris. He surely pestered them and was loved by them. Keith graduated from KSU in 1969 with Masters in Engineering. Keith dedicated his entire 40-plus year career to Pitt-Des Moines Steel, later Chicago Bridge Iron. He loved his work. On August 23, 1969, Keith married Diana Suzanne Sloan, the love of his life, who proceeded him in death in 2004. They had three children and seven grandchildren. Keith loved trains and train history. He took two train trips with Diana to the west coast - one exploring the northwest and one traveling back across the southwest. He was an avid collector of train memorabiliaand loved sharing stories of his "finds" and of the crazy antique stores where he found his treasures! Keith enjoyed travelling near and far and was the rare person who enjoyed the destination and the journey. Keith took one trip of a lifetime with good friends Ron and Mary Kay Barker, to France in 2012, returning to the ancestral home of the Carlats, enjoying Paris and being humbled by Normandy. Keith loved family. He met Diana when on a double date at the Smith Scholarship House. She was not his date, but he asked after her and they soon began dating! Keith and Diana were married for nearly 35 years and had three children - Jessica Carlat Stoner (married to Perry Stoner, they reside in Lincoln, NE), Jennifer Carlat (married to Jonathan Norris, they reside in Nashville, TN) and James Carlat (married to Amy Hadley Carlat, they reside in Ames, IA). Keith and Diana had seven grandchildren - Eliot Stoner, Emily Stoner, Julia Carlat, Anna Carlat, Jack Carlat, James Norris and Ella Norris. Diana and Keith enjoyed walks after dinner, gardening, grilling out for family, hosting the holidays, and traveling to explore new places and see family. Keith continued these hobbies after Diana passed and began actively volunteering with HCI Hospice Care Services, where Diana received loving care.
