Ival was born January 7, 1927 to Earl E. and Florence Wood Smith, in the Motor community near Milo, Iowa. He attended Motor country school and the Milo High School, graduating and immediately entered the army in May 1945 serving in occupied Germany until 1946.
On December 28, 1947 Ival married Geraldine "Jerry" Howe. He farmed in Warren County on the Smith Century farm and also worked for the Rock Island Railroad for 13 years.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Earl & Florence, and one granddaughter Amanda Roberts.
Ival is survived by his wife Jerry; 4 children, Kenneth & Lila of Burr Oak, Kansas; Keith & Nancy of Milo; Kevin & Janet of Lacona; and Karma & Marvin Roberts of Bronx, New York. Three brothers, Lyle & Edna, Marvin, and David & Barbara and fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 13 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will receive friends from 6 – 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to Motor Friends Church.
