A Mass of Christian Burial for Irene Jones, 93, who passed away Saturday, December 12, 2015, will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 16 at Assumption Church in Churchville with burial following in the Calvary Cemetery, Churchville, IA.

Irene was born in Prole, IA to Edward and Mary Sheehey on June 8, 1922. After graduating from Martensdale High School, she was employed at Solar Aircraft as a floor inspector. During that time she met the love of her life and future husband, Ralph Jones. They were married on June 30, 1943 at Assumption Church.

They farmed in Milo and Woodburn through 1981 and retired to Indianola. She enjoyed traveling, camping, attending Bluegrass music festivals and wintering in Texas. Irene was a sports enthusiast, especially for basketball and was very proud to be a basketball player in high school. Her caring ways, her faith, and devotion to family testify to a life well lived. Her sense of style and humor will be missed.

She is survived by her children, Ron of Lucas, IA, Mary Lynn Gass (Joel); grandchildren, Chris and Ben; sister-in-law, Kay Sheehey of Hartford, IA; and a host of nieces and nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Jones; brothers, James, Joseph, John, Roy and Gary Sheehey; sisters, Mary Ellen Hastie and Rita Carpenter Whelan.

Visitation will be held 4 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 15 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will be present to greet friends. A Rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. following visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Irene's name to the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
