Ila B. Lappe Indianola A Memorial Mass for Ila B. Lappe, 89, who passed away peacefully at home on February 22, 2014, will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 8 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Indianola. Ila grew up on a farm near Sabula, IA and graduated from Sabula High School. She attended Iowa State Teachers College and became an elementary teacher. While there she also met her future husband, Graydon Lappe, who preceded her in death. Ila began her teaching career at a country school near Miles, IA. She also taught 5th grade at Dunkerton, Rippy, Johnston, and Waukee. She is survived by her three children, Diane Suntken (Daryl) of Indianola, Stephen of Austin, TX and Mark (Kristi) of Rancho Santa Fe, CA; grandchildren, Stephanie Martin (Tyler) of Johnston, Stacie Clemence (Joel) of Overland Park, KS, T.J. Suntken of Marysville, MO, Caroline and Marielle Lappe of Rancho Santa Fe, CA; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Case Martin; one sister, Violet Smith of Sabula; one sister-in-law, Grace Lappe of Denison; two brothers-in-law, Arnold Jess of Sabula and Gregor Lappe of Atlantic.
