Obituary

Howard Sargent 79, passed away Wednesday, March 19 at the Good Samaritan Home in Indianola, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 24 at 11:00 a.m. at the Overton Funeral Home, Indianola, Iowa with burial in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday 3-7 p.m. at Overton's with family present from 5-7 p.m.

Howard was born April 6, 1928 to Harley and Cora Sargent near Indianola. He was raised near St. Mary's and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1946. Howard was a member of the American Legion Post #165 and the First United Methodist Church.

Howard retired from Armstrong Tire and Rubber Co. in 1989, after 23 years of service. He was also a school bus driver for the Indianola School District for 14 years.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Gladys Walters, Etta Mae Beck, Louree Chumbley, Edna Hollingsworth, Mary Thompson, Nora Edgington. Brothers Arthur and Fay.

Howard is survived by his wife of 59 years Mildred (Coffman), son Ken and his wife Mary Lou of Northfield, MN, daughter Kathy Putney of Indianola and her companion Gary Bryan. Grandchildren Andy, Emily, and Laurel Sargent and Ryan Putney, one great granddaughter, Nichole Meyer. Sisters Thelma Clarke of Des Moines and Charlene Freuh of Martensdale, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Howard enjoyed bowling, baseball, basketball, golfing and playing cards. He always looked forward to family gatherings and attending his grandchildren's activities.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post 165 or Kiya Koda Humane Society.
