Obituary

HELEN E. MCELWEE Milo Helen Rodgers McElwee passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, August 15, 2012. She was born November 13, 1913 to Vance and Georgia Rodgers in Pleasantville, Iowa and graduated valedictorian of her class from Beech, IA. On September 3, 1934 she was united in marriage to John McElwee. To this union three children were born. Helen and John spent most of their years farming in the Pleasantville area. She also retired from the State of Iowa and upon retirement they moved to Milo, IA. She was very active with her church, Motor Friends Church, the Ladies Aide and Coffee Club. She loved to play cards, any kind of game, puzzles and hand stitching quilts for her family that would be cherished forever. She was witty, charming and loved to talk, clear up to the very end of her life. She loved us and we all loved her dearly. Helen is survived by her children, Donald (Darlene), Merrill (Sonny) McElwee and Carolyn Watts; sisters, Hilda Perry and Louise Walker; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and eight great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John McElwee; two grandchildren, Larry Hardin and David; and two brothers, Leo and Dean Rodgers. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 18 at Motor Friends Church in Rural Milo with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be given to Motor Friends Church or Iowa Health Hospice.
