Born in Iowa City, Heather was scheduled to graduate from Des Moines Area Community College this spring and had enrolled at Simpson College in Indianola. She had worked for the Christian Opportunity Center in Indianola, and had just started working for Lutheran Social Services in Des Moines.
Cody was born in Des Moines, Iowa and was in the 7th grade at Martensdale – St. Marys Community School in Martensdale. He enjoyed family and friends, bowling, and loved the Hawks and Dale Earnhart, Jr.
Heather is survived by her husband, Cory Knust of Indianola; parents, Don (Carol) Bethke of Lake Mills, Elaine Bethke of Indianola; brother, Wayne Bethke of North Liberty; sisters, Diane Chanthavong of Texas, Megan Bethke of Winterset, and Becky Bethke of Cedar Rapids; mother-in-law, Donna Knust and father-in-law, Les Knust of Lacona; sisters-in-law, Sherri (Wade) Schurman of Milo, Kelly (Travis) Eckstein of Indianola; brother-in-law, Chad Knust and step-mother Karen Knust of Indianola and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to Heathers family Cody is survived by his father, Scott (Tamra) Halama of Keosauqua; grandmother, Linda Crill of Mt. Pleasant; half-brothers, Christopher Halama of Keosauqua and Brandon Halama-Stevens of Hillsboro; step-brother, Gabriel Bishop of Fairfield; and half-sister, Desiree Halama of Keosauqua.
Visitation will be held 1 – 5:00 p.m., Sunday, January 22, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will be present to greet friends from 2:30 – 5:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Salvation Army or Martensdale-St. Marys Community School.
