HAZEL MAURINE SANDY Hazel Maurine (Curtis) Sandy was born on November 16, 1934 in Lacona, IA to Hugh and Gladys (Furgison) Curtis. She graduated from Lacona High School in 1952 where she served as class president. On December 31, 1953 Hazel was united in marriage to Donald C. Sandy and together they had two children, Janet and Brad. She worked at Look Magazine following high school, then as a switchboard operator in Liberty Center, IA. She worked at the Indianola Sale Barn helping out sale days and later worked as a bookkeeper for Warren Count Brenton Bank until she retired in 1988. Hazel and Don were members of the Indianola Regular Baptist Church. Hazel enjoyed traveling to their vacation home in Branson, MO. on Lake Taneycomo and spending time with her grandchildren and friends. Hazel Maurine Sandy died on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the Bright Kavanagh House in Des Moines, IA at the age of 77 years and 24 days. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald C. Sandy; and brothers, Clyde, Delmar and Wendall. Survivors include her children, Janet (Mike) Sinclair and Brad (Cathy) Sandy; grandchildren, Brett (Stacie) Lester, Clint (Renee) Sinclair, Ryan Sinclair, Alisha and Jamille Sandy; one great-grandchild, Austin Lester; and brother, Orval Curtis. Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 13 at the Indianola Regular Baptist Church 1209 East 2nd Ave. Indianola, with burial following in the I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, December 12 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. to greet friends. Memorials may be given to Indianola Regular Baptist Church.
