Dorothea, the oldest of six, was born to Joseph L. Spick and Mazie Bergsma Spick. She received her elementary education in Clarke and Warren County schools, graduating from Martensdale High School in 1928. She married Charles W. Dunn August 28, 1929 in Indianola and to this union was born Charles Melvin in 1930 and Edward Joe in 1935. Son Edward Joe died in infancy.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Charlie; son, Chuck and daughter-in-law, Mary Tapscott Dunn; four siblings, Joseph Spick, Ina Miller, John Spick and Lila Campbell.
Dorothea is survived by sister, Jane Harper (Bob) of West Des Moines and five grandchildren, Charles M. Dunn (Susan) of Franklin, TN, Julie Miller (Gary) of Indianola, Linda Mathews (Tom) of Des Moines, Joe Dunn (Stacey) of Carlisle and Kelly Dunn of Carlisle. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. She will be fondly remembered for her great country cooking and her delicious pies and cookies. She was an avid reader and she and Charlie enjoyed summers at their cabin in Minnesota and winters in Missouri and Texas. She was a member of Scotch Ridge Presbyterian Church and several groups including the Indianola Ave Women's Club.
Visitation will be held from 1 - 3 p.m. Sunday, January 25 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will be present to greet friends. Memorials may be given to the Food Bank of Iowa.Visits: 0
