GRACE CHANDLER Indianola A Memorial Mass for Grace Chandler, 86, who died Sunday, March 27, 2011, will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 1 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Indianola. Grace Catherine Chandler was born to Frank and Rose (Hager) Phelan on May 23, 1924. She grew up on a farm north of Perry and graduated from St. Patrick's High School. She married Warren Chandler in 1947 and they lived on a farm north of Indianola. Grace above all loved her family and was a great comfort to them. She loved music, politics, reading, genealogy and was proud of her Irish and Austrian heritage. Her interests included playing cards (Bridge), reading, cross word puzzles (N.Y. Times), and cooking Austrian foods for her family. She is survived by her husband, Warren; daughters, Marilyn Porter and Carol Chandler; son, Paul Chandler; granddaughter, Rachel Wimbish; grandsons, Patrick Wimbish, Curtis (Jacki) , Kyle and Cory Porter; great-granddaughters, Kaitlyn, Claira and Kelsie; brother, John Phelan; five nephews and ten nieces. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lucille Haley; and daughter, Elizabeth. Grace was a generous and kind lady and we were privileged to have shared our lives with her. Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 31 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A Vigil service will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the House of Mercy.
