Services for Gilbert Palmer, 79, of Des Moines, who passed away Tuesday, March 12th, 2024 in Des Moines, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 23rd, 2024 at Overton Funeral Home with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery.  Visitation will be held prior to services from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Gilbert Robbin Palmer was born on April 6th, 1944 the son of Gilbert and Esther Palmer. He attended Lincoln High School in Des Moines Iowa in 1958. Following graduation, he worked a variety of jobs for many years, including truck driving, mail delivery, and Gil owned his own automotive shop for a time, before working as a mechanic for a few friends and family for a number of years.

Gil enjoyed having coffee with his late wife Doris, spending time with his family, watching the Vikings, riding his Harley, fishing, golfing, bowling, and working as much as possible on projects for just about everyone he knew.

Gilbert is survived by his children, Darrin (Samantha) Palmer, Chad Palmer, Gilbert (Becky) Palmer Jr., Detha Palmer-Chandler, Mark (Brenda) Stephens, Michelle Stephens; Siblings, Carl (Debbie) Palmer, Paul Palmer, Ruthie Wentz; Grandchildren, Josh (Karmin) Stephens, Tanner (Ryan) Rohlf, Camden Palmer, Dean Mcloud, Grayson Palmer, Asher Palmer, Seeley Palmer, Charlie Palmer and Ryan Gilliland; great grandchildren, Romen and Leila Gilliland and so many great, close friends.
