Services for Germaine Claire Echterling, 94, of Indianola, Iowa, who passed away Thursday, July 9, 2026 in Indianola, will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Shrine of the Assumption Catholic Church in Churchville, with inurnment of cremains in the Calvary Cemetery, Churchville, at a later date.

Germaine was born on August 19, 1931 in Adair, Iowa to Chalmer “Pat” and Frances Helen (McQuillen) Thompson. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy now Dowling Catholic.

Germaine was united in marriage to Elton “Fred” Echterling on July 4th, 1953. They were blessed with four children, Cindy, Jeannine, Eric and Amy. Germaine worked as a cook for the Martensdale - St. Marys Community Schools for many years. She enjoyed her family and was very active in her church with the Alter and Rosary Society and the birthday club.

She is survived by her children, Cindy (Mark) Eubank, Jeannine Roland, Eric (Mary) Echterling, and Amy (Dave) Morrell; grandchildren, Rebecca (Josh) Turner, Brandon (Brittney) Roland, Zachary and Ryan Morrell; great-grandchildren, Colton, Lexie, Aiden, and Kase Turner, Beau, Brody and Breanna Roland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Echterling; parents, Chalmer “Pat” and Frances Thompson; sisters, Frances Elaine Smeltzer and Jackie Gonder; and son-in-law, Jerry Ayers.

Memorials may be given in Germaines’s memory to Shrine of the Assumption Catholic Church.
