Services for Geraldine (Curtis) Ranker, 91, who passed away Monday, May 8, 2017, at Vintage Hills Care Center in Indianola of dementia, will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, May 11 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Burial will follow in the Liberty Center Cemetery, Liberty Center, IA. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Thursday.

Gerry was born October 21, 1925 in Liberty Center, IA. Upon graduating from Liberty Center High School, she boarded a train for Los Angeles, CA, to work with her friend Ruth Shupe at the aircraft factory riveting wings of B-17 bombers during WW II. She later moved to San Francisco to be with her Aunt Eunice.

Gerry met Joseph Ranker, a Navy signalman, and they were married in July of 1944. She and Joe moved to Medora, IA where they operated the Medora Store for many years. Gerry retired from Blue Cross/Blue Shield after 15 years and then volunteered at Helping Hand in Indianola.

Survivors include her four children, Alan Ranker of Pleasant Hill, Roger Ranker of Urbandale, Chris Ranker of Roy, UT, and Michelle Ranker of Ankeny. Gerry was preceded in death by her father, Malvern Curtis; mother, Irva Curtis; sisters, Arwilda Skinner and Bonnie Foley.
