Obituary

George William Sankey was born on May 20, 1932 in Lamont, Iowa, the son of Donald and Benita (Blackburn) Sankey.

He married Inus VanBrocklin on May 20, 1951 and to this union five children were born. Gary, Debra, George, Gordon and Galen Sankey.

George worked for John Deere for 34 years in Waterloo. He also restored several classic cars. They went from junk to gorgeous looking cars.

One of his hobbies was playing his classic Gibson Guitar and singing classic country music. He had a dance band for 20 years and prior to that he played with another band for many years.

He was a kind loving and soft spoken person and had a warm smile for everyone. His eyes would light up the room and was always lending a helping hand to other people.

On October 12, 2002 he married Charlene Buoy. George and Charlene were loved and supported by their Grace Church family where they faithfully attended for many years. They enjoyed traveling and seeing other parts of the world and also taking their camper to Branson and elsewhere. They spent 16 years as winter Texans where he enjoyed playing and singing at country music jams.

George left this world with his loving wife at his side to enter eternity with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, September 25, 2026 in Des Moines at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his wife, Inus; son, Gary Sankey; grandsons Andy Berry and Gary Sankey Jr.; parents, Donald and Benita Sankey; brother, Leslie Sankey and sister-in-law, Mary Sankey.
