Services for George Hubert Headrick, 89, of Indianola, Iowa (formerly of Unionville, Missouri) who passed away on August 25, 2026 at UnityPoint Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at Thomas Funeral Home, 709 S 27th St, Unionville, Missouri 63565, with visitation held prior from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Unionville Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, August 31 2026 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola.

George was born in Lenox, Missouri on January 10, 1937, (He liked to say he was a “37 Model”) son of John and Annadean (Bonebrake) Headrick. George chose to serve God at an early age and was faithful to that choice until the end of his life. George worked for various farmers before joining the United States Army in 1959. After basic training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, he was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska, as a medic.

After discharge from the Army, George worked for a dairy operation in Alaska. Following that time, he then settled in Fort Collins, Colorado working on the ranch of George Burgess. George was united in marriage to Daisy Kots on March 1, 1963. They moved to Powersville, Missouri in 1965 and operated a cow/calf operation with their four children for the next forty years. George also did custom fence building for many years. Friends and family loved coming to the farm, enjoying the cattle, exploring the woods and fishing in the many ponds. They retired from farming and moved to Unionville in 2005. At this time, his love for the outdoors led to helping many friends and neighbors with shrub trimming and general yard maintenance. They had beautiful flower beds and vegetable gardens admired by everyone. At the urging of his grandson, he expanded his building of toys and soon was selling and gifting his wooden toys to the many children he met. Always asking people if they had little ones who would like one of his push toy ducks. He touched many lives with his toys and with his kindness.

In 2015, they moved to Indianola, Iowa, where Daisy lived out her final year. George continued building toys and gardening, filling their yard with flowers, vegetables, and his beloved blackberries and raspberries. George always enjoyed fellowship with family and friends, and he loved to help people in whatever community he lived in. In 2024, he moved into Windsor Manor assisted living and thoroughly enjoyed his time there. When someone said, “Have a good day” he often replied, “You just made my day better.”

George is survived by a son, Kevin (Gail) Headrick of Leon, Iowa, daughters, Nancy (Greg) Vlieger of Indianola, Iowa, Elaine (Chuck) Griffith of St. Louis, Missouri, and Kathy (Marty) Overmann of Ackworth, Iowa; thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. George is also survived by siblings, Bonnie (Stanley) Keithley, Ken Headrick, Jerry (Anna) Headrick, Barbara (Larry) Cloyd, Kermit Headrick, and Gary (Wanda) Headrick.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy; sisters-in-law, Fay Headrick and Mary Headrick.
