Services for George Christopher Chapman, 79, who passed away Saturday, September 30, 2017, will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, October 4 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Goshen Cemetery, Lucas County, IA.

George Christopher Chapman was born in Rural Lucas County, IA to George and Bernice (Hawkins) Chapman. He graduated from East High School in 1958 and married Thelma Summers. To this union 5 children were born. George worked in construction before he started at Firestone in 1964-1965 where he worked until his retirement 30 years later. He loved fishing, bowling, tinker in the garage, squirrel hunting and spending time with his family and friends and most of all his dog, Scanner.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; children, Pauletta (Bernie Wysong) Mealey, Christopher (Tina) Chapman, Melody (Gary) Pettyjohn, James (Mindy Corben) Chapman, John (Kelly) Chapman, Brenda (Brian) Peterson, Cathryn (Rodney) Zimmerman, Jon (Kacey) Porter; 38 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; seven siblings and a dog named scanner. He is preceded in death by his wife, Thelma; parents; two siblings.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 3 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Christ Church, 1645 Pennsylvania Ave, Des Moines, IA 50316.
