GENEVIEVE B. HOLLINGER Indianola Memorial services for Genevieve B. Hollinger, 88, who died Wednesday, February 15, 2012, will be held 2 p.m., Monday, February 20, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Indianola. Burial of cremains will be held at a later date. Genevieve (Genowefa) was born July 21, 1923, in Chicago IL, the fifth of ten children. She attended St. John of God Catholic School and graduated from Gage Park High in 1942. She enlisted in the Navy WAVES December 18, 1943, and served at Glenview Naval Air Station in Glenview, IL. She also served at the US Naval Hospital and the Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, IL. She was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the American Area Medal. She married Navy Seaman Kenneth D. Hollinger, with whom she had seven children. She worked for the VA Central Iowa Health Care System in Des Moines as a medical transcriptionist for seventeen years, retiring in 1989. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church. She is survived by her children, Barbara Coughennower, Janice (Gary) Roland, Kathleen (Dick) Labertew, Christine (Dan) Porter, Teresa (Rick) Sinn, James Hollinger and Jacqueline (Jeff) Kleymann; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brothers, Joseph, Maniu and Tadz Smolucha; sister, Adeline Jarek; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents, Jozef and Antonina (Mardula) Smolucha; infant sister, Teresa; brothers, Edward, Walter and Stanley Smolucha; and sister, Helene Kiefer. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Monday. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Thomas Aquinas Church or Helping Hand.
