Gayle Wilbur Neely, 97, of Indianola, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2025 at home in Indianola. Visitation will be held 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Private Family Graveside will be held following visitation in the Scotch Ridge Cemetery, Carlisle.

Gayle was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who lived a full and active life. He was a proud member of the local carpenters union and had a lifelong love of woodworking. His craftsmanship was evident in the beautiful turned bowls, clocks, furniture, and rolling pins he created and sold at local farmers markets.

Gayle also enjoyed the outdoors and treasured time spent backpacking with his family. He became well-known in the Slater community for riding his three-wheeler along the local bike trail — a familiar and friendly sight to many.

Gayle's legacy of craftsmanship, love of nature, and quiet joy in life's simple pleasures will live on in all who knew and loved him.

Gayle is survived by his children, Michael (Donna) Neely, Gary (Amy) Neely, David (Jean) Neely, Julie (Jeff) Carr; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; cousins and many other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; parents, Kinsey and Nellie Neely; siblings, Roland Eugene Neely and Carolyn Fenimore.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Gayle to Suncrest Hospice or Windsor Manor.
