GARY GORDON WILKINSON

Gary Gordon Wilkinson, 61, passed away unexpectedly at their home in Jacksonville, Florida on the morning of Friday, May 3, 2019. He left behind his wife of 40 years and one daughter.

Gary Wilkinson was born in Des Moines, Iowa on December 13, 1957 to Gordon J. and Karma Wilkinson. He attended Emerson Elementary grade school on the east side of Indianola where Gary grew up with numerous cousins. Graduation occurred in the spring of 1976 from Indianola High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving his country for 20 years. Upon retiring from the Navy, Gary worked in electronics and communications with various companies involving railroad transportation technology. The highlight of Gary's career was 10 years with the White House Communications Agency team of the Secret Service, traveling with the President or Vice President setting up mobile communications.

As a child, Gary attended the First Baptist Church and Christian Union Church in Indianola with his family. He married Marcie Heemstra on August 5, 1978 in the Milo Christian Union Church, and on October 6, 1982 their daughter Heidi was born. Over the 20 plus years, Gary has been very active in the Deermeadows Baptist Church in Jacksonville, being involved with the Royal Ambassadors and witnessing to boys through that program.

Surviving Gary is his wife, Marcie; daughter, Heidi; mother, Karma Wilkinson; sister, Kathy (Dan) Stutsman; sister, Kayla (Scott) Sieloff; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Gordon J. Wilkinson, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Services will be held 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 10, 2019 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with visitation from 5 to 7:30 p.m. prior to service. Burial of cremains will be held at a later date.
