IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frederick "Freddy"
Drish
September 20, 1940 – December 31, 2025
Memorial Services for Frederick "Freddy" Lee Drish, 85, of Milo, Iowa, who passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2025, in Indianola, will be held 11 a.m., Friday, January 9, 2026 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Visitation will be held prior from 10 to 11 a.m. Inurnment with military honors will follow at the Belmont Cemetery in Milo.
Frederick "Freddy" Drish passed away surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy of service, hard work, and devotion to those he loved.
Freddy was born in Davenport, Iowa to Marion and Audrey Drish, and grew up in Zwingle, Iowa, where he developed the curiosity and mechanical mind that would stay with him his entire life. From a young age, he loved taking things apart and putting them back together—often better than before. It was a skill that earned him the reputation of being someone who could fix absolutely anything.
In 1960, Freddy enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam era. His military service was a source of lifelong pride, a value he passed on to his family, especially his sons, whose own military service Freddy spoke of with deep admiration.
After returning home, Freddy built a long and steady career as a machinist, working 25 years at Delavan in West Des Moines. He took great pride in his work and in the craftsmanship that came with it.
Freddy was a true family man who cherished time spent with those he loved. He especially enjoyed camping trips with his family in Southeast Missouri, creating memories filled with laughter, campfires, and togetherness. In his quieter moments, Freddy found joy in simple pleasures—tending to his yard, clocks, roller skating, and enjoying popcorn, ice cream, and a cold root beer.
Most of all, Freddy had a special place in his heart for his beloved dog, Lily, who was his constant companion and brought him endless comfort and happiness.
Freddy will be remembered for his kindness, steady hands, love of family, and an unwavering sense of pride in his service, his work, and his loved ones. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the countless things he fixed along the way—both mechanical and otherwise.
Fred is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Ann; children, Trung (Huong Tran) Nguyen of Davenport, Rebecca Drish of Indianola, Jason (Manda) Drish of Lucas, Matthew Drish of Ackworth, Samuel (Micki Bauer) Drish of Milo, Audra (David Horton) Jobst of Pleasantville; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Marian Stecklein of Bellevue; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ron (Janice) Drish; sister, Darlene (Dave) McCauley; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Stecklein and Leo Kaiser.
Memorials contributions can be made to the family in Fred's memory.
