Mr. Burger was born in Des Moines, graduated from Adel High School and attended Drake University in Des Moines. He began his career with the Iowa State Patrol in 1956 stationed in Atlantic. He then moved to Osceola, Indianola, Cedar Rapids then back to Indianola before retiring from Headquarters in Des Moines in July of 1994.

Visitation will be held Sunday, November 20 from 6 – 8:00 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Prairie Village, KS; daughters, Susan (Kerry) Newman of Leawood, KS, Ann (Adam Eliot) Burger of Kansas City, MO, and Nancy (Brian) Wright of Overland Park, KS; sister, Jan (Don) Price of Adel, IA; and 6 grandchildren , Taylor, Anders and Claire Newman, Evan, Jacob, Henry and Levi Wright. The family would prefer memorials be given to the Indianola Senior Citizens Center or the Alzheimer's Association of Iowa.
