Freddy was born in Durham, Marion County, Iowa; he had resided in Indianola for one year. Previously he had lived in Millerton, Iowa, and Indianola. He had served in the United States Army as a Military Policeman from 1956-1958. He had been employed as a bridge builder, carpenter and as an over road truck driver. Freddy retired in 1998.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Freddie Jr. Simmons in infancy and John J. Simmons on April 24, 2006; and a sister, Betty Manser.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyne of Indianola; three sons, Ed Komarek and Danny Komarek both of Onawa, and Sam Simmons of Des Moines; a daughter, Brenda Miller of Onawa; a step daughter, Anita Kraack of Atica; four sisters, Alice Avery, Annie Hill, and Pearl Minard, all of Knoxville, and Norma Bride of Ottumwa; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 5:30 – 7:30 p.m, Monday, April 16, at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends.
