Evelyn E. "Dunc" Duncan, 93, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2025, at Ramsey Village in Des Moines, Iowa.
Dunc was born May 11, 1932, in Lineville, Iowa, to Cecil and Kate (Ellis) Duncan. After graduating from Lineville High School, she relocated to Des Moines and began her career at Bankers Life Insurance Company, which later became Principal Financial Group, where she worked until her retirement.
Dunc lived life with energy and enthusiasm. She enjoyed all sports, played basketball during her school years, and cheered for the Iowa Hawkeyes, with a special interest in women's college basketball and in later years, the WNBA. She was a devoted fan of Ted Williams and the Boston Red Sox and even had the memorable experience of meeting him.
She loved fishing at farm ponds in southern Iowa and enjoyed fishing trips out of state, where she caught trout, and a variety of other fish. She also enjoyed skiing at different resorts throughout the country and had the unforgettable experience of attending the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York.
Dunc found joy in gardening and enjoyed feeding the animals and birds that visited her backyard, especially the cardinals. She was always ready for a good time, loved traveling, and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Whether she was trying her luck at casinos or enjoying music, she had a special way of making every gathering more fun.
Dunc will always be remembered for her resilient spirit, her independence and strength, and the way she knew how to have a great time while living life on her own terms.
She is survived by nieces, Carol Felice, Doris Bethards (Don), Donna Acheson; nephew, Alan Acheson (Terre); as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews, and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Billie K. Acheson; brother-in-law, Earl Acheson; infant brother, Kirk; and nephew-in-law, John Felice.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Dunc, may be given to the Animal Rescue League.
