Obituary

Evelyn Ruth Olson Davies Indianola Evelyn Davies, a devoted wife and mother, died peacefully early Tuesday, January 28, 2014 in West Des Moines, Iowa. Evelyn Ruth Olson was born to Herman and Luella (Engelbert) Olson, one of eight children. Her mother died when Evelyn was 12. She met James R. Davies, and wed in 1944, and they were married for 65 years. Jim was serving in the United States Army, and after the war, they attended Iowa State University. She was a very active member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Indianola, serving in lay positions in the local church, the presbytery and the synod, and was a delegate to the national church's General Assembly. She later took art lessons, becoming accomplished in oil painting, with many of her works decorating the family home. After Jim's retirement from a lengthy career at People's Trust and Savings Bank, she helped as he organized tours for the bank's seniors club. Those tours gave them the chance to travel widely in the United States and to the British Isles, Norway and Europe. She was a member of PEO. She resided in the memory care unit of Windsor Manor in Indianola for the final four years of her life. She was preceded in death by Jim, on December 12, 2009, and by five of her siblings. She is survived by her sons, David (wife Bonnie) of Ankeny, Paul (Nita) of Albany, Oregon, and Keith of Indianola; grandchildren Eric of Denver, Colorado, Jason of Cedar Rapids, Michael of Cedar Rapids, and Carla of Indianola; great-grandson Carson Crouse of Indianola; sister Ann Johnson of Coon Rapids; brother Max Olson of Cambridge; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, January 31, from 4 to 8 p.m., with family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Overton Funeral Home, Indianola. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 1, at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 200 S. Howard St., Indianola. Family burial service will follow.
