ESTHER L. HOUSTON Indianola formerly of Des Moines Memorial services to celebrate Esther's life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, January 26 at the Ackworth Friends Church, Ackworth, IA. Esther L. Houston, 88, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2013 in Indianola. Esther, the daughter of A. J. and Ellen Marie (Rockwell) Moffitt, was born November 22, 1924 on the family farm near Ackworth, IA. She graduated from Indianola High School and attended William Penn University and the University of Iowa. She lived in Des Moines most of her adult life and was married to Franklin T. Houston. They raised two children, Marsha and Brad. She lived the last three years at The Village in Indianola. Esther worked over 50 years at H.E. Sorenson Company in Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her infant brother, Curtis Edward Moffitt; brother, Clarence Moffitt; sisters, Caroline (Kit) Duncan and Alta Overton; and her nephews, Rick Overton and Alan Overton. She is survived by her daughter, Marsha Houston of Seattle, Washington; son, Brad (Sherry) Houston and grandson Cole of Denver, Colorado; sister, Mary (Russ) Long of Indianola; nieces and nephews, Venece Oakley, Maurice Moffitt, Denise Moffitt White, Dawn Duncan Kendall, Dayton Duncan, Roz Gugler, Terry, Charles and Tom Long, Deanna Overton, Shirley Cunningham, Linda Smith, Theresa Violet and Beth Freeman. She is also survived by step-grandchildren, Richard, Thomas and Kyle Evans. Esther donated her body to science at the University of Iowa. The family would like to thank the staff at The Village Health Care Center and Wesley Hospice for the wonderful care Esther received.
