Obituary

Errol Miller Reed was born May 1, 1927 in Wayne County, Iowa to Robert Lloyd Reed and Nora Letta Miller Reed. He died January 8, 2006 at Veteran's Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa of Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) which progressed to Leukemia. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Liberty Center Methodist Church in Liberty Center. Visitation will be at the Overton's Funeral Home in Indianola on Tuesday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

He married Alice W. Layton on May 9, 1954 and to this union five children were born: Connie Patton, Dennis Reed, Christy Miller, Darl Reed and Darren Reed. His parents, and infant brother, infant sister and sister, Marilyn preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Alice and children, Connie and husband Steve, Dennis, Christy, Darl and wife, Melissa, Darren and wife Lori, 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He joined the United Methodist Church in 1970. He was a World War II veteran where he served his country in the Engineering Division stationed in Japan. He worked at Western International for 38 years. His work ethic and character were extraordinary and he worked hard to instill these values in others, especially his children.

He enjoyed traveling and camping vacations with his family. He dearly loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One summer he took the grand-kids camping while Alice worked. They all fondly remember those camp outs. He was an exceptional craftsman and especially enjoyed woodworking. He enjoyed yard-work and took pride in a job well done, regardless of the task. He was a perfectionist in everything he undertook. In his younger years, he was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors as often as he possibly could. After retirement, bird watching was a favorite pastime.

Errol will be remembered as a loving and caring husband and father. He was a quiet man with a ready smile. His family and all who knew him will sadly miss him.

Memorial contributions can be sent to the MDS Foundation.
