ERNESTINE I. SMITH
Indianola

Services for Ernestine Iolas Smith, 93, who passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at The Village in Indianola, will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 30 at the Indianola First United Methodist Church with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Ernestine was born July 16, 1923 in Indianola, IA to George M. and Iolas (Sarchett) Boothe. She was united in marriage to Donald R. Smith on March 23, 1945 and together they farmed near Prole. Later she worked for 10 years at Marquardt Advertising in Des Moines. After retirement they moved to Indianola and most recently she lived at Vintage Hills. She was a member of Indianola First United Methodist Church and KTA Birthday Club.

Ernestine enjoyed many different things: butterflies, hot air balloons, crocheting, adult coloring, playing games... anything social. She and Don loved to dance and travelled on many bus trips to places all over America. But her greatest love was for her family. She was very dependent on her iPad so she could stay current with grandkids activities and everything else going on around her.

Ernestine is survived by her daughters, Kay (Ray) Chittenden, Cheryl (Casey) Kazebeer, Priscilla (Jeff) Penrod, and Julie (Jeff) Eyberg; nine grandchildren, Anita (John) Elliott, Kent Chittenden, Rhonda (Brian) Calderon, Michelle (Bernie) Dillman, Dawn (Josh) Higday, Molly (Jamie) Schoop, Scott (Lisa) Higens, Jennifer (Jon) Godden, and Jessica (Dave) Campbell; 16 great-grandchildren, Courtney (Kreig) Johnson, Joe Elliott, Jonah and Tess Calderon, Nick and Nate Dillman, Kendall and Kade Higday, Amanda and Eddie Schoop, Dylan and Tyler Higens, Elliott and Amelia Godden, and Andrew and Alex Campbell;  and two great-great grandchildren, Kinley Higday and Nara Dillman; brother, George David Boothe and sister, Nancy Lehmkuhl.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ray Smith, granddaughter Jordan Eyberg; sisters, Sara Ripperger and Virginia Foust; brother, Arliss Boothe.

Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 29 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola.  Memorials may be given to Wesley Life Hospice or the First United Methodist Church.
