Obituary

Memorial services for Elmer R. King, 80, who died Wednesday, June 1, will be held 11:30 a.m., Saturday, June 4, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Visitation with family present to greet friends will be held 10:00-11:30 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home The body has been cremated. A private interment of cremains will be in Shaffer Cemetery.

Born on a farm south of Indianola, Elmer had lived in Indianola all of his adult life. He was a 1942 graduate of Indianola High School and had served in the United States Navy 1943-46 with active duty in the South Pacific. An electrician, Elmer was employed in Indianola and also had worked for Solar Aircraft and R & R Welding. He retired in the late 1970's while employed by A.M.F. in Des Moines. Elmer especially enjoyed his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; his hobbies were gardening, refinishing furniture, drawing, art, and carving wood.

He is survived by his wife, Betty King of Indianola; a son Allen (Kathy) King of Indianola; two daughters Jeanne Crabb of Adel and Sally (Dick) Wood of Indianola; a brother Marion King of Alabaster, Alabama; a sister, Darlene Gandy of Mission Viejo, California; 9 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Central Iowa.
