Obituary

ELIZABETH HIGENS Des Moines Elizabeth "Bette" Irene Higens passed away Thursday, January 22, 2015 in Des Moines at University Park Nursing Home with Anna Brown, her niece, by her side. Born in Des Moines, Iowa to Earl and Anna Knipp on May 9, 1921, she attended Des Moines Oak Park School and Ankeny then graduated from Spring Hill in 1939. She worked in the family plumbing business and at Orchard Place as a supervisor. Elizabeth and George Higens married July 4 1941 and they made there home in South Des Moines and also their business, Fort Des Moines Plumbing and Heating. Following retirement, they moved to Missouri and later came back to Indianola. They had no children. Elizabeth is survived by her brother, Robert Knipp of Fullerton, CA and sister, Shirley Andrew of Indianola; many nieces and nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Earl and Anna Knipp, husband George Higens and sister Ethel Haffa. She will always be remembered by her spirit of giving, loving care for her parents, her love for Cadillacs and animals, and her great enjoyment for life and travel. We give her to you lord. Rest in peace. From her loved ones. A Memorial service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, February 7, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial of cremains at a later date in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
