Elizabeth Blake Indianola Elizabeth (Libby) Blake passed away in Indianola on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at the age of 100. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Monday, November 17 at Farmer's Chapel United Methodist Church, with visitation an hour before the service. Burial will be at the Indianola IOOF Cemetery. Libby was born December 14, 1913 on Mt. Baldy near Uplands, California to Glen and Susie Bowles. She was the middle child in a family of nine. The family, originally from Iowa, moved back to Agency, Iowa where she spent her early childhood. She has fond memories of early life with eight siblings. The family moved to Indianola in 1929 during the Great Depression times. Libby graduated from Indianola High School and attended Simpson College where she was affiliated with the Tri Delta Sorority. She married Paul (Pete) Blake at the Little Brown Church in 1938 and they moved onto his mother's farm where she has remained until recently. In college, Libby had majored in Home Economics so put her training to work in duties of a farmer's wife cooking for harvest hands, family, and whoever happened to stop by. She was known for apple pie and the Saturday night special. She raised a large vegetable garden, did lots of canning, raised chickens, and did sewing for many people. She did volunteer work as a charter member of Warren County Cancer Society, was on Low Rent Housing Board, was a 50 year member of Eastern Star, belonged to a Garden Club and senior member of a Birthday Club. She was a 70+ year active member of Farmer's Chapel United Methodist Church and a long time Sunday school teacher. She and her husband traveled a lot and spent their later winters in Mesa, Arizona. Libby is survived by two children, Jane Fellows, Indianola, IA and John Blake (Pamela), Marshalltown, IA; two grandchildren, Blake Fellows (Kristen), Leesburg, Va. and Keri Blake (Ben), Indianola; four great-grandchildren, Blake Jr. and Catherine Fellows, Bo Dixon and Janie Marie Blake; sister, Lois Allen (J.K.) of San Rafael, CA; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, and cherished friends. She was preceded in death by husband, Paul (1995); parents; four brothers, Bill (Becky), George (Georgianna, Beverly), Glen (Marietta), and Jack (Ruth); three sisters, Dixie (Louie) Blake, Doris (Marlys) Walker, and Edna (Loren) Herway; and three sisters-in-law, Helen (Bill) Parfitt, Becky Bowles, Georgianna Bowles, Ruth Bowles, Marietta Bowles and Ruth Whitney; and Buster Brown Blake, her beloved dog, her friend and protector, who helped her through good times and bad times.
