Funeral services for Eleanor Heemstra, 97, who passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at The Village in Indianola, will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 16 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Burial will follow in the Liberty Center Cemetery. Eleanor was born in Liberty Center and had lived the majority of her life on the Heemstra family farm. She taught elementary school in Spring Hill and in country schools in Norwood and Round Top. She then taught at Lacona and New Virginia before retiring from Indianola Community Schools in 1979 after 17 years. She was a member of Liberty Center United Methodist Church and Eastern Star # 338 in Indianola. Survivors include her sisters-in-law, Ramona Butler, Edith Heemstra, Marilyn Heemstra and Joyce Heemstra; brother-in-law Walt Butler and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Bessie (Downing) Kline; husband John Heemstra, two brothers, Leland and Dean Kline. Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, December 15 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to her church.
