Services for Effie Miller, 85, who died Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, May 24 at the First Assembly of God Church in Indianola with burial following in the I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Indianola. Effie Fern Wood married Nelson Riley Miller on October 2, 1946. They had five children, Eddie, Michael, Kevin, Beverly and Dorene. She was a homemaker and then aquired a job at Gross-Galesburg in Charton, Iowa for 15 years. They then moved to Indianola, Iowa where she worked and retired from Good Samaritan after 20 years. Effie is survived by her sons, Eddie (Kathy), Michael (Audrey) and Kevin (Becky) Miller; daughters, Beverly (Glenn) Shounkwiler and Dorene Spencer; grandchildren, Jenny, Teresa, Brian, Jason, Justin, Corey, David, Nichole, Tonia, Jeremy and Travis; 31 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Stella Hendrix and June Steinman. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Nelson on August 23, 2003; parents, Ray and Dora Wood; brothers, Earl, Erman and Arthur; and sisters, Flossie and Lucille. Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 23 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. to greet friends.
