Services for Edna Mae Walker of Indianola, IA, will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Linn Grove United Methodist Church, rural Norwalk, with burial following in the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines.
Edna was born in Indianola on July 19, 1932 to Clarence and Vivian (Williams) Utsler. She graduated from Spring Hill High School in 1951 and was united in marriage to Dwayne Walker on May 27, 1951. Four children were born to this union. In January 1961, the family moved to Florida where her dad and step-mother resided. The family moved back to Iowa in 1963, where they farmed in rural Indianola, and then between Bevington and Patterson where they family moved in March of 1975. Edna started working at Prinicipal in 1981 and retired in 1995. She and Dwayne moved to Indianola in 2001, where they resided for the remainder of their lives.
Edna was a member of Linn Grove United Methodist Church, where she taught VBS and was active in UMW for many years. She was also a 4-H leader and was involved in a neighborhood ladies club. Edna was an excellent cook and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
She passed away Tuesday night, February 11, 2020 at Indianola Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home where she had resided the last 2 years and 4 months of her life. She lived 87 years, 6 months, and 23 days.
Edna is survived by her daughters, Pennie (Raymond) Stafford and Janice (Bruce) Bogaards; son, Dwayne Walker II; son-in-law, John Vermace; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; step-sister, Kristy Utsler; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Patricia Vermace; brother, James Utsler; step-mother, Mary Utsler; step-brothers, Mike, Dennis, Ronnie; and step-sister, Kathy Utsler.
Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, February 14, 2020, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. to greet friends.
