Obituary

Our mother, Edith Elizabeth Henry, passed from this life on October 27, 2021. She was born to Cyril and Mable (Nutting) Spear on February 17, 1933. Edith attended Burgess Country School and graduated from Liberty Center High School, where she participated in many activities. She loved to tell the story of how she rode 5 gaited Morgan Horses at her Grandfather Nutting's farm. A long-time member of the Liberty Belles 4-H Club in Warren County, she was thrilled to have the Grand Champion Baby Beef Steer at the Iowa State Fair in 1946. She also showed the Grand Champion Steer at the 1948 Warren County Fair. She met the love of her life, Merrill Henry, during those 4-H days. They were married in November of 1950 and shared 69 years together raising five boys and Angus Cattle registered under Meredith Angus Farm. Mom was a very talented seamstress - making her own clothes, keeping the boy's jeans patched, re-upholstering furniture, creating needlepoint pictures and making many blankets, bears and dolls for the grandkids. She also had a talent for painting, flower arranging, gardening and finding 4-leaf clovers. She was most proud of her sons, grand and great grandchildren and enjoyed keeping up on all their activities. She was a member of the Farmer's Chapel United Methodist Women, and they were members of a 9 couple Club that originated from a MYF group at Green Plain Church.  That Club met monthly for over 60 years.

She is survived by sons, Craig (Jeannie), Lynn (Claire), Brad (Beth), Steve (Jeri Le) and Layne (Geri); Grandchildren; Brandy (Andrew) Lundy, Nicole (Cory) Kennedy, Judson (Staci) Henry, Jason (Abby) Henry, Jayde Henry, Tiffany Rodriguez, Jessica Lear, Chad Henry, Tallis (Tyler) Strub, Ty Henry, Erin (Matt) Young, Joe Henry and Chris Henry; great-grandchildren; Camryn and Adelyn Bruce, Logan, Jackson, Landon, and Jessen Henry, Aiden, Taryn and Peyton Henry, AJ Baker, Christian and Noah Lear, Shaeffer and Walter Strub, brother Marvin Spear, brother-in-law Larry Lester and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Merrill, parents, sisters Janice Goode and Edna Lester, and a great-grandson.

Services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola, with family present from 9 to 11 am to greet friends. Burial will be in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name to the Warren County Fair or Iowa Angus Association.
