EDITH M. GRAY Santa Maria, CA Graveside services for Edith M. (Middleswart) Gray, 81, who died June 16, 2012 at the Marian Extended Care Center in Santa Maria, CA, will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 11, 2012 in the Belmont Cemetery, Milo, IA. Edith was born on May 30, 1931 to Fay H. and Mable C. Middleswart in Warren County, IA. After graduating from High School in Indianola, she worked for Meredith Publishing Co. in Des Moines, IA before moving to Los Angeles where she met her future husband, Bill. In 1972, they moved to Santa Maria where she worked at Allan Hancock College until her retirement in 1996. She was also a realtor in Santa Maria for over 30 years. Her generosity and caring for others and commitment to her community touched many lives. She was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church, the Santa Maria Valley Women's Club, Altrusa International and the Minerva Club, all in Santa Maria. She worked tirelessly for the projects and causes supported by these organizations. Edith had a tremendous zest for life and a delightful sense of humor. She loved camping, hunting and fishing with Bill and their friends as well as traveling with family and friends. Her energy and enthusiasm seemed boundless. She is survived by her four older sisters, Barbara Hunerdosse of Knoxville, IA, Ruth Robertson of Des Moines, June Higdon and Eva Grace Flynn both of Norwalk, IA; as well as many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, Ralph W. (Bill) Gray; her parents; nephew, Charles F. Robertson; and niece, Arminta Hunerdosse Shetterly.
