Funeral services for Dorothy Eleanor Stearns, 85, formerly of Milo, Iowa, who passed away Monday, February 17, 2025, will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 24, 2025 at Mt Calvary Lutheran Church in Indianola with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Dorothy was born on July 15, 1939 in Dexter, Iowa to Clyde Ernest and Marian Frances (Campbell) Brooks. She grew up on a farm north of Stuart, Iowa and graduated from Stuart High School in 1957. In her youth, she was active in 4-H Club, band and church.
Her first job was with Bankers Life in downtown Des Moines. She met the love of her life, Ronald Jerry Stearns of Milo at a Des Moines YMCA dance. They married on June 23, 1963 in her hometown of Stuart.
Together, Dorothy and Ronald raised four children in Milo. Throughout her adult life, she volunteered through school, church and community groups as a treasurer and quilt maker. She enjoyed competing at the Warren County Fair with her Textile and Crafts for many years and did extensive research for genealogy of her and her husband's family. She was happiest when she was with family and creating quilts and clothes for family and charities.
Survivors include her children, Diane (Carl) Linnerson, Ronald (Connie) Stearns II, Sylvia (Lance) Bergeson and Becky Stearns; grandchildren Abby (Chris Peterson) Linnerson, Tory Linnerson, Alexandria Linnerson, Annika Bergeson, Lukas Bergeson; great-grandchildren, Lulea and Piper Peterson; sisters, Mary McClean and Virginia (Thomas) Midkiff; sisters-in-laws Janet (James) Arey and Judith (Paul) Lepley; close friend, David Amick as-well-as other nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Stearns; parents, Clyde and Marian Brooks; brother, Marvin Brooks.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, February 23, 2025 at Overton Funeral Home. Memorials in memory of Dorothy may be given to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Lutheran Hour Ministries or Agape Pregnancy Center in Des Moines.
