Dorothy "Dottie" Anderson, Walles, Lyon, 93, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2014 at Fleur Heights Nursing home in Des Moines. Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 21 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Dottie was born July 27, 1921 near Carlisle, Iowa to Earl and Mable Anderson. She had one sister Wilma Langfitt. They lived near Carlisle and later moved to the country near Pleasantville and then to Indianola. Dottie graduated from Pleasantville High School, Pleasantville, Iowa, and she attended AIB for a few years. She then worked at the Military Defense Plant in Ankeny during World War II and was transferred to Chicago where she met her first husband, Joseph B. Walles, Sr. Together they had a son Joseph B. Walles, Jr. Later Dottie and her son moved back to Central Iowa to live with her parents. She worked 29 years for Farm Bureau in Des Moines and Indianola and retired in 1982. She married Bert Lyon in 1961 and they lived on a farm south of Beech, Iowa for many years before moving to Indianola. Dottie and Bert had many wonderful years together doing what they loved most, traveling the world. Dottie loved spending time with her family, being outdoors, and helping on the farm. She enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, playing bingo, crocheting and volunteering at the Helping Hand and the Historical Society in Indianola. She is survived by her son Joseph B Walles, Jr. of Indianola. Two grandsons Tad Walles of Indianola, and David (Heather) Walles of Des Moines. Granddaughter Jolea (Marty) Schwager of Clive. Eight great grandchildren Isabella and Chase Walles, Trevor, Zachary and Keaton Schwager and Noah, Grace and Owen Walles. She was preceded in death by her husband Bert Lyon, parents Earl and Mable, and sister Wilma Langfitt. Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 20 at Overton Funeral Home with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in her name.
