DOROTHY JUNE KEARN
Norwalk
Dorothy June Kearn was born June 26, 1933, the daughter of Karl and Margaret Hartman in Firth, Nebraska. In her early years she attended Nebraska Wesleyan University and was a country school teacher. She married Melvin Kearn on August 12th of 1951 and after her children came she was a homemaker and Avon Lady. She and Melvin moved to Iowa in 1969 where they made their home in Orilla just outside of Cumming. Dorothy was very active in Christian Women's Club, and member of Cumming Community Church where she taught Sunday and Bible school. She performed secretary work at Norwalk High School and KWKY Christian radio station. She learned to quilt and paint in her early retirement years in South Texas.
In 2004, Dorothy moved to Indianola where she made many new friends and enjoyed Tai Chi at the Senior Center, going to the Senior Meal Site, walking the bike trails, playing cards with friends, going to the Square for Bluegrass Music Night and Bike Night and attended Christian Union Church.
She made God and Family her life's priority and lived it to the fullest. Dorothy went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday June 13th, 2016.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Julene Kearn; son, Brad (Nancy) Kearn; grandchildren, Erin Kearn, Taylor (Tyler) Nelson and Daniel Kearn; sisters, Ethel Dreeszen, Mildred (Don) Wheatley, Marlene (Arnold) Schroder, Donna (Larry) Harshfield; sister-in-law, Karen Hartman; brothers, Earl Hartman, Karl Jr. (Phyllis) Hartman, Kenneth (Ruth) Hartman, Ronald Hartman, Daryl (Lyn) Hartman; sister-in-law, Ruby (Bob) Bork and more than a hundred nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin, brother Eugene Hartman, sister-in-law Joyce Hartman, brother-in-law Dale Dreeszen, and parents Karl and Margaret Hartman.
Dorothy was well loved by all the caretakers she encountered during her travels with her Alzheimer's illness. Her happy-go- lucky, friendly, caring and beautiful smile was with her to her last moments. She most certainly heard "Well done my good and faithful servant".
