Funeral services for Dorothy D. Kading, 99, who passed away November 11, 2021, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 18 at Overton Funeral Home, Indianola, IA. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 at the funeral home. Interment will follow services at I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Indianola.
Dorothy was born in Des Moines, Iowa, grew up in the Indianola area and graduated from Indianola High School. She married Donald Kading in 1941 and raised their family of four children on a farm near Ackworth. She was a current member of the United Methodist Church. She was a former member of Ackworth Friends Church where she was very active as organist, and in children's and ladies' ministries. While her home and family were most important in her life, she taught piano and held various positions outside the home including at Indianola public library and Simpson College library. She did many volunteer projects including translating reading materials to braille. She also enjoyed sewing, needlework and gardening. She was loved by everyone at the Winterset Care Center North where she resided the last 11 years of her life.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Karen (Wendell) Pedersen, LaDonna (Pat) Overton, and Richard (Teri) Kading; grandchildren, Debra (Craig) Schwickerath, Mike (Lisa) Pedersen, Jackie (Randy) Armstrong, Shawn (Sue) McFarland, Christine (Carl) Franzon, Matt (LaShunda) McFarland, Justin Overton, Josh Overton, Matthew Overton, Robert Overton, Cameron Overton, Kelley Quigley, Morgan (Justin) Moen, Dan (Sue) Kading, and Josh (Cait) Kading; 28 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; daughter, Sheryl Butcher; granddaughter, Julia Kading; great granddaughter, Megan Pedersen; parents, Albert Leo and Pearl Frazier; and siblings, Leo Frazier, Jr., Rose Bowery and Robert Frazier.
Memorials may be made in Dorothy's name to Ackworth Friends Church.
