April 3, 1946 – July 14, 2023
Donald "Allen" Stalter, 77, of Indianola, Iowa, passed away Friday, July 14, 2023 at home, after a short battle with melanoma.
Allen was born in Indianola, on April 3, 1946, to Donald C. and Frances (Broyles) Stalter. He grew up in Liberty Center and New Virginia with his brother Michael and sister Shelley. He helped his parents work on the family farm and was very active in 4-H and FFA. In 1964, he graduated from Interstate 35 High School and in 1968 from Simpson College majoring in biology. Allen also served six years in the Iowa National Guard.
On June 10, 1966, Allen and his high school sweetheart, Rita Reichert, were united in marriage in New Virginia, Iowa. They made their home in Indianola and raised their daughters Jodi and Melissa.
Always a hard worker, Allen owned and operated his own construction company in the Indianola area for over 30 years retiring in 2016.
Hunting and fishing were two of his favorite hobbies. He also enjoyed helping plant food plots and working on other wildlife habitat projects, but his greatest enjoyment came from raising quail.
Allen is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rita; daughters, Jodi (Britt) Sternquist and Melissa (Ryan) Casner; granddaughter, Shelby Casner; grandson, Blake Allen Casner; brother, Michael Stalter; and sister, Shelley Lucas. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Janice Stalter, and brother-in-law John Lucas.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Elizabeth and Kristal and the Suncrest Hospice staff, who helped fulfill his wish of staying home with his family in his final days.
Funeral Services will be held 1:30 p.m., Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola, with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 19, at Overton Funeral Home, where family will be present to greet friends. Memorial contributions may be directed to Warren County Pheasants Forever, in Allen's name, or to the Allen Stalter Memorial to be used at a later time for wildlife conservation.
