Obituary

Services for Donald Deane Keever, 76, who died Friday, July 3, 2009 after a sudden onset of pneumonia at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines surrounded by his family, will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday July 7, 2009, at Overton Funeral in Indianola. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Keever, the son of Paul Baker Keever and Hildred Ethel Staples, is survived by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis Nadine Wildman. They were united in marriage May 7, 1953, and the union was blessed by two children, Nadine (Erik) Naberhaus of Webster City and Lucy (Gene) Newcomb of Indianola. Also surviving Don are grandchildren; Aaron Michael Hoffman, Rachel Michelle Hoffman, and Nicole Nadine Newcomb; two sisters Pauline Krafka of Ottumwa and Twila Hadden of Altoona; and several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, step-father and brothers-in-law Matt Krafka and Tom Hadden.

Don served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne from 1951 – 1953 as a paratrooper attaining rank of Sergeant. He worked as a barber, a manager for the State Liquor Control Department, a driver for Purolator Courier Corp and a driver for RPS. After retirement Don worked security for NPI at American Republic Insurance. His interest included being a 50 years member of the American Legion, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Indianola and an avid bowler with family and friends for many years.

Visitation will be held 3 – 8 p.m. Monday, July 6 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the American Legion Post # 165 or the First United Methodist Church in Indianola.
