DONALD HILDRETH Indianola Donald Hildreth was born in Slater, Iowa on March 28, 1922 and passed away November 3, 2011 at 89 years. Memorial services will be held 10 a.m., Monday, November 7 at the Norwalk United Methodist Church. His father and mother; George and Esther Hildreth, lived in Minnesota for a time and while Don was quite young they moved to a farm in Rockwell City, Iowa. This was during the Depression and after a long struggle, his father lost the farm. During his early school years, Don worked with his father on a milk route in Des Moines. Later they sold this route to Anderson Erickson Dairy. As a high-schooler, Don delivered milk. He started his day at midnight, worked until 6 a.m. and then went on to school. He graduated from North High school in 1940 and joined the Army as a telegrapher in 1943-45. He married Virginia Bushong July 14, 1945. Don attended college at Iowa State and graduated in 1949. He worked as a milk inspector in Moline, IL. Later, he was with the Sturdevant Dairy. After that, he worked for the State of Illinois as a milk inspector once again. In 1954, he joined his father in partnership raising chickens and farming, and stayed at this for 46 years. Upon retirement he and his wife, Virginia, traveled to Arizona and enjoyed the warmer climate. Don fathered eight children; seven boys and one girl - Tom (Jane), Lee (Dave) Polley, Tim (Maureen), Dan (Kathy), Sam (Leisa), Joe (Aggie) and Don, Jr. (Renae). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and sister, Dorothy Matthiesen. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Matt, two brothers and a sister. Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, November 6 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with family present to greet friends.
