Obituary

A Celebration of Life Gathering for Denny Lee Brown, 72, who passed away Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Lucas County Health Center in Chariton, will be held 4 to 7 p.m., Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Community Building at Green Acres, 5347 Morman Trail, Melrose, IA 52569.

Denny was born January 17, 1954 in Des Moines, Iowa, to son of Richard and Mary (Armstrong) Brown. He was known for having the biggest heart, someone who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need, and his warmth and selflessness touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Denny was incredibly handy and could fix or build just about anything. Whether it was helping a neighbor or working on a project, he did it with skill and a willingness to help. He was also a great friend to all who knew him, someone people could count on and trust. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved spending time fishing, enjoying peaceful days on the water, and taking golf cart rides around Green Acres, where many will remember his friendly wave and easy smile. But above all else, Denny cherished his family. They meant the world to him, and he made sure they always knew it. One of his favorite places to visit was Lilley’s Landing in Branson, where he enjoyed countless trips with Sue, Chris, Megan and Milo. His grandchildren will always treasure the memories of summer breaks spent at his house, going fishing, singing Jimmy Buffett and the excitement of celebrating the Fourth of July together, especially the fireworks. He created memories they will never forget.

He shared a beautiful and loving life with his wife, Sue, whom he adored. Their bond was a true example of love and partnership, and together they created a home filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories.

Denny’s presence will be deeply missed, but the love he gave so freely will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His legacy is one of compassion, generosity, and unwavering love for family and friends.

Denny is survived by his wife, Sue; children, Kindra (Daryl) Kennedy, Chris (Megan) Mosher, Aimee Yurgae, Cory Brown, Molly Phipps; grandchildren, Lindsay (Alex) Petersen, Layne (Ashleigh) Mosher, Tyler (Madde) Kennedy, Milo Mosher; great-grandchildren, Grace, Bennett, Henry, Benjamin, Gatlin, Lawsyn, Bria; niece, Robin Van Zuuk. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Pamela Van Zuuk.
