Funeral services for Dennis Lee Schrader, 83, of Indianola, who passed away Friday, May 31, 2024 at Taylor House in Des Moines, will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Indianola with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Dennis was born in Dallas, Iowa on March 31, 1941 to Daniel Schrader and Frieda Louise (Hartz) Schrader. He graduated from Lacona High School in 1959 and went to work for the Rock Island Railroad. When the Rock Island closed, he went to work at Iowa Interstate Railroad until 1988 when he retired. After retirement he worked various odd jobs. Dennis enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapshooting. He liked bowling and sharing a pitcher of beer with the team. He was a master gardener and always had plenty for everyone. Whether it was boating, having "happy hour" drinks or Saturday night with his siblings, spending time with family was always the most important.

Dennis was united in marriage to Linda (Fry) Schrader on September 8, 1963.  To this union three children were born, Daniel, Jeffrey, and Karla.

Dennis is survived by his wife Linda Schrader; children, Daniel (Krista) Schrader, Jeffrey (Jeni) Schrader, Karla Schrader; grandchildren, Bryce (Lacey) Dishman, Michaela Madsen, Daylon Schrader, Erica (Cory) Silvius, Jessica Schrader, Jayden Schrader, Noah Jackson, Avery Jackson, Sydney Jackson; many great-grandchildren who always filled him with so much joy; siblings, Carol McKnight, Doran (Mary) Schrader, Connie (Terry) Boettcher, Dave (Candy) Schrader.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Fredrick and Frieda Louise (Hartz) Schrader and grandson, Joey Schrader.

Visitation will be held prior to services from 9 to11 a.m. Thursday at the church.  Memorials in memory of Dennis may be given to Taylor House Hospice or Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.
