Denice Groomes, 75, of Indianola, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 12, in Indianola. She was born on May 28, 1951, in Ames to Glen J. and Joanne (Janes) Groomes. Denice lived most of her life in Nevada, and moved to Indianola after retiring from the USDA lab to be closer to her son’s family. 

Denice is survived by her son, Doug “D.J.” (Kara) Bylund of Indianola; grandsons, Joey (Allison) Bylund of Scottsdale, Arizona and Alex Bylund of Indianola; her aunts, Nancy McLean of Ames, and Judy (Richard) Bishop of Indianola; uncle, Ron Janes of Collins; sister-in-law, Sandi Groomes of St. Clair, Missouri; and multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her partner, Rod Renfeldt; parents; brothers, Steve, Kevin, and Brent Groomes; and grandparents, Glen F and Helen (Jordan) Groomes and Theodore and Francis (Wiese) Janes.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. with a time of remembrance at 3:30 p.m., at the Nevada Senior Center, 1231 6th Street, Nevada, Iowa. Inurnment of cremains will be at the Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge, Iowa on Monday, August 31, at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Denice can be made for the Iowans for Adoption.
