Obituary

We invite you to celebrate the beautiful life of Debra Sue Amstutz - beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, friend and Jesus' #1 fan.

Having dedicated her life to the glory of God and His Son, it seems they wanted her to come home sooner than the rest of us did - she broke free from the confines of this mortal world and soared on angels' wings to her eternal home on June 5, 2025 at the young age of 67.

Debi was born on February 11, 1958 in Fort Wayne, IN to Marlene and James Fawcett. She grew up with her two siblings, Darlene and Dennis. As fate would have it, she met the one and only love of her life, Rex Patrick Amstutz, at the age of 15 on Coldwater Lake. Two years later, these two lovebirds wed on August 23, 1975, spending over half a century building and creating a legacy grounded in the love of Jesus, hard-work, honest living and strong family values.

Over a span of 14 years, Rex and Debi brought four children into this world together - April, Amber, Alexis and Austin. God blessed Debi beyond measure with the superpower of motherhood and she invested every ounce of her unwavering love, patience and time into her family.

One never had to question what was for dinner, as Debi always ensured that her family and friends were nourished by her passion for food and innate ability to create the yummiest homemade meals using whatever she had at her fingertips - wild fish and game, home-grown garden veggies and butter of course, with a dash of pure love that made everything taste better.

Before her Heavenly Father called her home, G-ma Debi was blessed with 12 grandchildren (Stella, Nova, Adelaide, Violet, Hazel, Ezio, Max, Samuel, Oaklyn, Grey, Sadie and Callie) and 2 great-grandchildren (Isla and Indie). Her undying love, goofy playfulness and fun-loving spirit have been passed on into these generations and will forever carry on through her iconic  lap-bouncing songs, hilarious made-up sounds and words, Bible verses on notecards and joy of growing plants and flowers.

Debi's dream job was always to be a wife and mother, but she also blessed her communities with her knowledge and expertise while serving as a Registered Nurse. From surgery rooms to post-partum care to schools, Debi touched the lives of complete strangers with her God-given abilities to nurture, comfort and heal.

After her children were raised, Debi whole-heartedly invested her time, love and life alongside her best friend and husband - hunting, fishing, building, gardening, cooking and traveling as far as Alaska. She was Rex's number one fan, supporting and loving him in a way no other wife could.

Join us in saying goodbye, for now, to our beloved Debra Sue Amstutz - Earth Angel, Prayer Warrior, Stellar Wife, World's Best Mother, Amazing Grandma, Master Cook, Green-thumb Gardener, Loving Friend and Die-Hard Jesus Follower. Knowing her, she will continue to watch over her loved ones from above, sending her powerful prayers, touching the flowers we grow, holding us when we hurt, whispering "add more butter" when we cook and resting peacefully for eternity in her Heavenly Father's arms.

"A private family service will be held at a later date."
